Mayauel was born and still lives in Manhattan Beach, California. It was while he was attending El Camino College that he was introduced to glass blowing by Stewart Abelman. After college Mayauel worked for Correia art Glass in Santa Monica. In 1979 he joined Stewart Abelman later becoming manager and his brother is law. In 1989 Mayauel started his own business making lampworked paper weights from his home while still working for Stewart, where he is still employed. Today Mayauel has added torchworked vases, perfume bottles and paperweights to his collection. His works are collected throughout the U.S. and the world.
